State Relays
Our team strives to put the fastest relay forward to represent our team at State Meets. There are three types of swimmers:
- State qualifiers: These are swimmers who have individually qualified for state meet.
- Relay only qualifier: This swimmer has been chosen to be on a relay. Their times have been used to build the fastest possible relay.
- Relay alternate: This swimmer has been chosen as an alternate. An alternate is someone who needs to be ready to step up in case relay swimmers are sick, injured, or unable/cannot swim in the relay. They are required to attend state meet practices and activities. They are to attend the meet and be prepared to step up. It is possible that this swimmer may not swim on the relay. They are encouraged to time trial an individual event to have another shot at a best time.
Process:
- Swimmers interested in being considered for relays will commit to the State meet. Being committed to the meet DOES NOT mean a swimmer will be chosen. It only indicates they are available to be considered for a state relay. All committed swimmers SHOULD be communicate their availability in the registration notes. This will make a difference to our team.
- Relays will be formed using the most recent times via computer. This typically is after the MRC final times are uploaded.
- Swimmers on relays are chosen from those who have registered for state and whose times make sense for the leg or stroke of a relay. This includes determining alternates.
- Coaches work with State qualifiers to determine whether it is in their best interest to swim a specific relay or focus on the individual events. This is typically decided after the psych sheet is published.
- Our club has many state level swimmers. Not All state level swimmers will be on a relay. A state level breaststroker may not be considered for freestyle relays or sprinters may not be considered for distance relays and visa versa.
- Coaches ALWAYS reserve the right to make last-minute changes for any reason.
