Coaching Staff
Sharon Moran Program Director/Head Coach/ Sr. & Elite

Coach Sharon lives in Maple Grove. She loves to be outside. When she is not working at the pool you can find her in her yard working on a new landscape design or out at the barn working with horses. Inside she loves movies, music and her 4 cats and two pugs.

Coach Sharon loves everything about swimming. Her passion is developing good technique and helping each swimmer optimize their skill based on what their body is able and/or ready to do. Swimming is about learning in layers. Once a skill is solidly learned then it is time to add to the next level of skill. You never stop learning and developing in this sport. Coach Sharon believes that many of life’s lessons can be learned in the pool. Hard work, perseverance, attention to details, not comparing yourself to others and setting attainable goals are just a few of the lessons that swimming helps develop in a young person.

Eric Neese Billing/Admin Assistant

Eric became a member of the TUNA family seven years ago when his daughter Evelyn joined the club. From day one he has been deeply involved as a parent volunteer. His passion for the club and its swimmers led Eric to serve on the Board of Directors in several roles including President and most recently, Vice President of Finance. He is now working part time for TUNA as an administrator assisting Coach Sharon and the Board of Directors.

Eric lives in New Hope with Evelyn (who splits her time with both of her parents) and Cookie the Cat. In addition to howling EVELYNNNNN at swim meets, Eric loves rock hunting with Evie, playing tabletop games with friends, working in his native gardens, and is always listening to music or a new podcast.

Marina Mascarenas Lead Coach Sr1

Coach Marina swam competitively from age 12-18 for NHCP and for Osseo. Her favorite races were the 200 IM and 100 fly. She enjoys every minute with her swimmers and is honored to push them to reach their goals in and out of the water.

During her junior year of high school, Marina began competing in triathlons and discovered a deeper love for distance sports. Once in college, she went on to complete three half-iron man races, and her first full Ironman 140.6 in Wisconsin during the fall of 2022. In 2024, she raced in Wisconsin again qualifying for the Kona World Championships where she will compete in 2025. The grit discovered in these races has allowed coach Marina to encourage her swimmers that anything is possible when you commit to working hard.

Marina graduated in 2023 from the University of Minnesota and now owns and operates Marcy Consulting. When she isn't on deck or working, Marina enjoys being at the farm with animals, cooking, Catan, reading, or playing beach volleyball.

Margaret Knier Lead Gold Coach

Coach Maggie joined NHCP’s coaching staff in 2021. She has a passion for swimming and working with kids, and looks forward to being on the pool deck each day. Maggie loves to help her swimmers grow as teammates and athletes, and is always working to correct form and efficiency in the water.

Maggie started swimming when she was 12 and joined Big Lake High School’s swim team. She went on to swim four years at Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she specialized in sprint freestyle and participated in the DII NCAA Swimming Championships three years in a row. As a swimmer, Maggie’s coaches had a huge impact on her love of the sport, and she enjoys the flip side of getting to have that impact on her swimmers.

In addition to coaching, Maggie works in advertising and runs an Etsy shop. In her free time, she enjoys reading, exercising and going for walks with friends.

Jess Klepetka Lead Silver Coach

Coach Jess started swimming for NHCP when she was 8 years old. She swam competitively from then on including at high school where she led as a captain her senior year. She recently graduated from Concordia College Moorhead, where she swam all four years and focused on sprint free and fly. She has a passion for both swimming and loves helping swimmers fall in love with the sport the way that she did while on this team.

Jeremy Hughes Lead Bronze Coach

Jeremy has had a long history with NHCP that began as a swimmer in 1986.  From a young age he was a highly competitive, hard working swimmer that stood out in the pool.  On deck however Jeremy was an often misguided wild child that may have missed an event or two and undoubtedly made it an adventure for his coaches!

His career highlights include:  Being a club state champion, receiving a scholarship at the University of North Dakota and earning Division ll NCAA All-american honors. None of which were more important to Jeremy than the guidance and mentorship he received from his coaches growing up and the lessons learned from the sport.

Jeremy works full time and resides in New Hope with his wife Katie and two "tunas" Clara and Harper.  He has spent time serving on the Board of NHCP as well as the city of New Hope's Pool Committee. These endeavors along with being a swim parent ultimately reminded Jeremy of his passion for the sport and drove his decision to step into the world of coaching.  Jeremy is now in his 13th year as a part of NHCP!  When away from the pool he loves to fish, travel and hang with friends.

Lindsey Hill Bronze Coach
Tom Mascarenas Lead Mackerel and Skipjack Coach
Levi Garberg Asst Mackerel, Skipjack and Tunny coach

Coach Levi swam competitively from age 13-18 for Anoka High School.  He started in 7th grade with no background in competitive swimming.  After a few years of hard work, his junior year, he qualified for State, 7AA, for the first time in the 400 free relay.  During that time, one of his friends talked him into joining TUNA. He joined the team in the summer of 2024 with his favorite races in 100 fly, 200 fly, 50, 100 free and all the relays.  When he returned to High School, his senior year, he and his friends broke the team record in the 200 medley relay.

He was one of the captains on the swim team and helped lead over 40 swimmers.  He enjoys watching swimmers take what they’ve learned from the coaches and applying it to the sport.  He likes watching their growth in the areas of discipline, consistency and dedication; helping them achieve their individual goals.

Levi is enrolled at Hennepin Technical College, Diesel program.  When he isn’t on deck, he enjoys the great outdoors and mechanical endeavors.  In his spare time, he likes to fish, hunt and spend time with family and friends.
